This was a pass me the popcorn, can't pull my eyes away, guilty pleasure read that I enjoyed immensely. SO. MUCH. FUN.Adeline Bell is a lonely housewife of an abusive husband. She is never allowed to leave the house. Thankfully her husband works away all week so she takes solace in her 8am jog. Thursdays are her favorite day of the week...want to know why? Because that's when HE is mowing the lawn of her neighbors. He is gorgeous and for the last six months Adeline has done nothing but fantasize about him. She dreams of him at night and would like nothing more than to make her fantasies a reality. One day while on her jog she trips and falls only to have you know who come to her rescue. His name is Ben Jones and he is every bit as perfect as she imagined him to be.
Adeline's husband keeps her on a concoction of pills to keep her mind foggy. He said she can NEVER leave him because he knows her secret. She is convinced he is trying to make her crazy.
Ben wants to help Adeline escape her abusive husband and here the roller coaster ride really begins.
If you like addictive books with twists and turns then this is the book FOR YOU!!! All the stars!
I should also mention that Ben is my new book boyfriend, so, sorry ladies, but he's mine! ;)

The Truth in My Lies edition by Ivy Smoak Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
NO SPOILERS FROM MY REVIEWS, EVER!
I found myself absolutely pulled into this story from the first few pages. It is deeply compelling, with characters that almost jump from the page. As I continued to read, the plot really began to spin its web. I was quite immersed and engaged by the story and its deeper meaning. It is not your run of the mill thriller, to be certain.
Ms. Smoak took her time in writing a book that has very well-penned characters that are very layered. Her plotting is very smooth, the many twists are not easily seen, and she creates a nearly palpable mood in her writing. There are several passages I highlighted, as she has true depth driving her literary skills. One is left with a philosophical question that is tangled and complex. I loved this book for these reasons, and more. I easily give stars and my recommendation to this excellent offering from Ivy Smoak. It is a Must-Read, IMHO.
As Always, I Wish Happy Reads to All from the Unapologetic Book Junkie 😉!
I thought Missing Pieces was Ivy's masterpiece but I have to rethink that. This is Ivys Masterpiece. I stayed up all night. Could not put it down. Ivy has out done herself. A must read.
The basic concept of this story was good; the execution was not.
The dynamic between Adeline and Ben quickly became circular and repetitive while only adding scraps to the plotline. Half of the first sixty percent of the book could have been edited down without losing anything but tiresome reading.
In fact, the sixty percent point truly is the beginning of the story. It’s where the real clues begin, and where you’ll be able to start piecing them together rather quickly.
The Home Alone references were an unadvisable device, were not necessary, and became absurd. Better to leave them out. A subsequent scene could have been an I Love Lucy episode. These are the type of things that distract, not enhance.
The ending seemed hurried and forced, and the cute little tie-in with the title of the book fell flat.
This novel needs some serious editing
* garbage disposals don’t spit dry white powder out into the sink
* she had crutches – not taking them to the neighborhood meeting was understandable, but not using them for the visit to the clinic was not – yes, she wanted to be totally dependent on Ben physically, so reference that reason. But for someone as detail oriented as Adeline, it was surprising that she left herself open to the lack of the privacy that she wanted with the doctor.
* “I asked you want you wanted…” Did anyone at all proofread?
* “The one that’s been subscribing you medicine.” Again, proofread.
* ‘But I hadn’t been done my work.’ Third time’s the charm.
* Adeline Harlow.” End quote out of nowhere – there is no beginning quote.
* She pinched the bridge of her nose so damn many times that I wanted to scream. Highly distracting. The last thing you want is to throw readers out of the story with irritating repetitions. Reword, use another descriptor, or simply leave it out.
Any decent editor would have caught these things. Even a decent proofreader would have helped tremendously.
Beta readers are wonderful, and every author would do well to have them. They can be valuable, but they’re not editors. In many cases, sadly, they’re simply ‘yes’ men, and often will post wonderful reviews simply due to the virtue of being chosen.
Such carelessness in a published work is nearly unimaginable. Regrettably, it makes me care less.
This book sucked me in. I was guessing the whole time and was wrong half the time. As an avid reader i thought i could see through the plot but it suprised even me. Entertaining fun and twisty. A good read
A thrilling story that will twist you more than a rollercoaster.
Adeline Bell wakes each day with an agenda. To repeat the following day as the same. One thing disrupts this, Ben Jones. Watching him every Thursday mow a yard on her path as she runs, all her dreams come true when she falls and Ben comes to rescue. His touch, his manly, grassy scent fills her with desires she's only dreamed of. One problem, her husband.
For ten years, Adeline has lived in fear from the hand of abuse. She's convinced her husband is drugging her into insanity. Yet, her psychologist sees only the man who worries and cares for her. Dr. Nash insists that she take the prescription meds to focus and forget. Which is it? She can't remember.
Ben begins to see signs of abuse and helps Adeline set a plan to get out. But then, she can't remember if he's real, or even who she is. But one thing is for sure. Adeline does not want Ben to see what's in her basement.
This book will have you turning page after page with a twist to the very last. I enjoyed this book with a passion. Ivy Smoak knows how to set the wheels in motion for a well done wheel-in-wheel thriller.
