This Christmas is she going to lose her ranch?

For years Callan Carrigan has been her father’s right hand man, so when her dad’s will names city slicker Court McAllister the new owner of The Circle C Ranch, Callan feels betrayed on every level.

Then she and her sisters find their mother’s diaries, hidden from them by their father since their mother’s accidental death 18 years ago, and the shocking revelations explain a lot. Reeling, Callan seeks refuge in the local saloon, where it seems no one can reach her, until Court offers her a challenge.

If she agrees to be foreman at the Circle C for one year, he’ll deed the ranch back to her and her sisters. The deal seems too sweet at first—until Callan realizes Court has his eyes on something she protects even more than her family’s land—her heart.

A Cowgirl Christmas Carrigans of the Circle C Book 5 edition by C J Carmichael Literature Fiction eBooks

Callan Carrigan was the youngest of four girls in her family. Her mother died when she was very young and she was raised by her older sisters for a while and then by her father. Now, at 26 years old, she was having to deal with the unexpected death of her father and the secrets he had been keeping. After his death, she found out he wasn't the father she had always thought him to be and when he left the Circle C Ranch, her only true love, to a distant cousin whom she had never met, she was devastated. How could her father have been so cruel and unfeeling?

Court McAllister had known for years that he would inherit the Circle C Ranch from his Uncle upon his death. He had never met any of his uncle's children and didn't know the kinds of feelings that would stir up in him. The story was a very emotional story, especially for Callan and Court. Callan had always had to be tough to survive in her father's world so she put on her tough exterior for others to see instead of the pain and hurt she was feeling from her father's betrayal. All she had ever wanted to do was to be a rancher but what would she do now? How could she leave the only home she had ever known?

This was a good story and there was no descriptive sex scenes. For the most part I enjoyed the story and learning more about Callan's sisters and their families from earlier books in this series.

A Cowgirl Christmas Carrigans of the Circle C Book 5 edition by C J Carmichael Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

What an emotional story. Callan and her sisters had one "douche" of a father...sorry that's the way I feel about it. He did just what was required and not an ounce more. He wasn't in the story long but the harm he helped cause definitely does. I know he kept his promises but he was cold in his ways too. He was emotionally abusive and the worst of it fell on Callan, the youngest sister. Of course their dead mother wasn't exactly a saint either but at least they KNEW she had loved them.
Court had no idea the mine field he was walking into. Of course he knew some of the secrets that the sisters didn't but her thought their father was an honorable man in most of his ways. Antiquated when it came to women but at least he had seen Hawksley as a warm, caring man during the years he had visited. It was a side that few people had seen of him but he didn't realize that until he spent more time at the Circle C.
I enjoyed the story but felt some of the many questions when it came to Hawksley were unanswered.
The "fight" between Callan and Court is a good one and she goes toe to toe with him. She might be the size of a peanut but Hawksley helped make sure she was tough. Court tries to help her find the real woman underneath all the shocks and pain.

Not to worry there will be a H.E.A. and there were other family members who helped along the way. Mainly the sisters and their H.E.A.with good men, that already had been gained.
If you like rude, immature, and uncaring heroines then this book is for you. I liked the beginning of the story. Callan Carrigan worked her family ranch with her father, Hawksley. He was a cold, cantankerous man who never offered her any prais or affection. Her mother had died at the age of 8 and her older sisters had left the ranch to make careers of their own. Callan stayed by his side and worked without complaint. She loved every bit of the ranch and expected to always remain there. When Hawksley died of a heart attack, she and her sisters were surprised to discover that the ranch was left to a cousin they hadn't met. Court McAllister offers her the chance to be equal partners in the ranch but Callan stubbornly refuses. I could understand her anger at the situation, especially when she finds out the truth about her mother, but her petty, mean streak totally turned me off. Her treatment of her father's old horse Zorro sickened me. Her total lack of compassion for that horse made me wonder if she was as cold and unfeeling as the man who raised her. I was left wondering what Court saw in her other than the fact that she was pretty.
A standalone read with a HEA. This is a very good story and it holds your attention right through to the end. A very hard father, not at all loving or kind, dies on the youngest daughter's watch. It has only been the two of them for a while. There were 4 daughters. The others were much older and gone from home so it just left her and their father to live on and run the ranch. He was not close to any of his girls. The heroine is the youngest and the one that wanted to be a rancher and wanted her dad's approval and love more than anything.

She has never had a social life except for hanging out in the local bar shooting pool and drinking beer. She was definitely one of the boys. Most were sort of afraid of her. She seemed to be following in her father[s footsteps to being hard and not very kind. The other sisters all had families and lives of their own. They only returned home for holidays. After the funeral the will is read and she discovers that her father left her money but he gave her beloved ranch to a nephew. She is devastated. The other girls are not as upset since they have homes of their own and none wanted the ranch anyway. They were not close to the father and really didn't love him that much anyway.

There are lots of secrets involving this family. Some explain the reason the father was like he was and why he treated them all like he did. The romance between the heroine and the nephew is what the story is basically all about. I could see where he was quite the catch. This guy had a lot to offer besides being very attractive, kind, caring, etc. to me, the heroine not so much. i got a little tired of her stubborn streak, she was blaming everyone for her unhappiness and seemed determined to cut off her nose to spite her face. I really didn't care for her at all. She was rude, moody, and just a plain sour little person. To be honest, I can't understand why the hero even found her the least bit attractive. Her personality was such a turn off that her looks became way down the list on the positive side. But, as fiction goes, she gets her way, and there is a HEA.

I would recommend the story. I thought it was a good story and there is some character development as the heroine sees her way clear to behave like a rational human being. Some of the stunts she pulled were just over the top to me. She was so unkind to the hero on most occasions. But again, it is fiction and it all worked out.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 12/19/17
