Let me begin by saying that I loved The Bride Of Black Douglas hence my purchasing this book. I love EC and her writing style but this story just didn't do it for me as most of her others have.I normally read books in no more than two sittings and this one took much longer it just didn't keep my attention as most of EC's other books have. I was disappointed I spent that kind of money for it I would have been better off waiting a while and buying the paperback for a penny here on Amazon.
For the first 20% of the book it dragged on with many unnessasary details and fillers until the main character's finally met. I wanted the meat of the story.
I wasn't as enamored with "The Ghost" as before he lost his lovable, playful and comical behavior almost becoming impatient. I didn't look forward to his appearances and didn't miss him. I would have loved to see him in the same light as in The Bride Of Black Douglas.
The sister's relationship seemed lacking that closeness especially having been twins. Isobella didn't seem overly concerned with her sister's kidnapping as most siblings would have been no matter what explanation was provided. Until the last 10% of the book Elizabeth never appeared or was hardly mentioned. I think that was a big mistake I wanted more details before that. I'm sure it was a ploy for an upcoming sequel and there will be one I don't doubt it since Elizabeth's story wasn't told at all.
Alysandir was much to patient in waiting for Isobella's explanation of her sudden appearance, once given he was way to accepting. No others asked much about her past which was very unrealistic to me. No explanation was given until the 50% point and I was curious to hear her explanation way before than. I expected lots of comical comparisons from 1515 to 2011 and there were only a few.
I lost respect for Alysandir in his treatment of Braden also found it a weakness in character that he fell apart because of his first wives behavior, his not standing up to his Uncle regarding his parents burial arrangements and also his allowing Isobella free run after having told her to stay put made seem less of a warrior type. He just fell short for me.
Elizabeth and Isobella began to lose their 21st century speak patterns using "ye" and never once complained about all the extra clothing. It just could have been so much better.
I looked forward to this sequel and loved TBOBD so much that anything short of the same type of book wasn't going to be a winner.
I gave this three stars since it wasn't perfect to earn 5 and it wasn't close to being perfect so didn't earn a 4. It wasn't bad enough to earn a 1 nor was it bad enough to earn it a 2 hence my three it was just average to me.

The Return of Black Douglas MackinnonDouglas Book 2 Elaine Coffman 9781402250743 Books Reviews
The characters and events were well developed.
I really enjoyed this. I might suggest more care is taken with the editing as there are several misplaced words, obvious cut and paste type errors etc.
Not the best read. The author is not consistent in her use of the Scot's accent. Very distracting to me.
I do not care for modern romance novels, but instead prefer the historical romance, especially the ones that involve highland warriors. So I decided to give the time travel books a shot. The first one I read was by a different author and it was very hard to follow and the warrior was brought to the 21st century. I was ready to give up, but then decided to try another author. I'm so glad I did. This book was easy to follow and so well written that I could actually put myself into the story. I couldn't put it down. I did wonder how the twins disappearance would be explained and didn't think it would be covered, but at the end it was. I am looking forward to Elizabeth's story!
I Think this book was marvelous a lot of romance and intrigue. I want to check and see if This author wrote any sequels she must have for their were twin sisters in this book. I my opinion this is a must read.
3.5 - 4 stars.
Although there was some eyerolling stuff going on plotwise, all in all it was entertaining.
A jokster ghost, a hunky laird and twins from Texas. Nice light time travel. )
Will be reading the story about the other twin soon.
** Read June 2012
Somehow I felt like this book was written by two different people, or like she started, put it down, then 5 years later returned and added some things without fixing what was already there. I'm talking specifically about the initial scenes with the twins more than anything. They feel so amateur and the characters are as annoying as a 13 year old's Mary Sue self insert.
Then the writing starts getting more consistent, with a more mature development... but I still can't stand Isobella. Give me Alexander and his brothers any time, but the twins... ugh.
3 stars because I did enjoy some of it. Maybe it's just me.
Oh how I loved this book, I found myself rooting for our destined hero and heroine, and for 99 cents you cannot get a better price for an enjoyable romantic read!
The sexual tension between Isobella and Alysandir Mackinnon is substantial, even with the fact that Alysadir has closed off his belief in a woman's honesty and Isobella doesn't quite know what to think of her handsome savior or is he her captor?
Our heroine is a romantic at heart who relishes in the rich history of her scottish acenstory and finds herself drawn to a painting of the Black Douglas she not so quietly states that she longs for the romance and courting of her ancestors.... what she doesn't understand is that she's about to be thrown into a vortex of time, and has taken her sister along with her.
The build between the characters is slow, you see Isobella battle her fear of never going home, but as her journey continues, she struggles with leaving behind the people she's met and formed relationships with.
She and Alyasdir become friends despite his trepidation, and as friendship blooms, unwanted feelings begin to plague our hero, as he never wants to love or be deceived by a woman again, but he's fighting a losing battle as relationship grows, tragedy strikes and they may never have a chance to mend the tatters of both their hearts.
If you love time travel/Sexy Scottsman/ and alpha romance/ mixed with a dose of Angst.. you will enjoy this book.
